Post AGM updates:
The Annual General Meeting took place last week on Wednesday, 20th of March 2019.
37 members turned up for the AGM. The principal business of the night was to approve the new Constitution and By-laws following changes to the Associations and Incorporation Legislation. Club member John Foulsham gave a brief explanation of the Act before the members passed resolutions approving both the Constitution and By-laws unanimously for his efforts on behalf of the club. John was awarded with the Member of the Year trophy which he was very pleased to receive. President Bill Cox gave members a brief background statement outlining the appointment of Turfmaster, the contractor now responsible for course maintenance. He also spoke about changes to the Constitution replacing the CEO role with an Honorary Secretary’s position.
At the end of the meeting, members unanimously supported a resolution electing Marion Gathercole as a Life Member of the club. President Bill read a brief statement highlighting Marion’s long and meritorious service to the game of golf and the club. This notion was received with applause.
Message from the Course Chair Peter Cook
The course is in fantastic condition and I appreciate the positive comments that have filtered back to me. I would like to thank Turfmaster and particularly Gary Long and his team for all of the hard work they have put in since they commenced at SVGC. All sprinklers are now working and with some serious detective work all valve boxes around the course have now been found and are in working order.
3 Weeks ago Gary and his team groomed all greens which has helped promote a consistent roll and speed. Last Friday Gary again groomed 1,10,8,17, 4, 6 and 9 with wonderful results. You will have also noticed the holes in the all fairways. Every fairway was Hollow cored in the attempt to reduce the furrows on the fairways. This has worked really well.
In light of that we plan to have the preferred lies removed commencing this Saturday. Areas that still have some issues and need a little more time to TLC will have a white GUR line around and your ball can be moved and dropped to the nearest point of relief. A notice will be on the first tee to remind you.
Lastly Gary and I would ask if you please observe the following. Please repair your divots on fairways via either chopping in with your club or fill with sand. Please repair at least 2 pug marks on the greens including your own. Can you also only add enough sand when filling divots on fairways so the sand doesn’t protrude above the grass This is damaging the mower blades and slowing down the greens staff. Remember please rake the bunkers once you have finished playing your shot. There has been quite a number of foot prints in them lately and it only takes a few seconds to leave them the way you found them.
See you all out there and look forward to the amazing Autumn weather to come at the home of golf, Sea View Golf Club.
